Cognitive Impairment

Quick Description

Cognitive impairment involves a loss of or problems with memory, learning, concentration, and decision-making.

Full Description

Cognitive impairment is when an individual begins to have problems with their short-term or long-term memory. Cognitive impairment is also known as cognitive decline or cognitive loss.

Cognitive impairment can impact many aspects of daily life outside of memory. It can affect an individual's ability to learn new things, concentrate, or make important decisions.

Cases of impairment can range from mild to severe. This deterioration or loss in mental capacity often leads to a need for continual supervision. This supervision is necessary to protect the affected individual and others around them.

This need for care or supervision can also trigger Long-Term Care Insurance benefits.
