Instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs) are necessary to live but not necessary for fundamental functioning. Instrumental activities of daily living can include:

  • Shopping
  • Cooking
  • Cleaning
  • Meal prep
  • Taking medications
  • Paying bills
  • Laundry

Anyone unable to perform one or more IADLs without help may have an IADL limitation. They may need long-term care or assistance to remain safe and comfortable at home.
